Established certification bodies and labelling schemes include FSC (Forest Stewardship Council), PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification), KOMO and many others.
One of our suppliers, Plum Products, has a Chain of Custody FSC certificate. This means that they can track from the forest to the final product to ensure that the wood contained in the product or product line can be traced back to an FSC certified forest.
Wood products that come from well managed forests have the most benefits in terms of combating climate change, as trees are planted in place of those cut down. Buying wood from certified forests ensures that those forests have been sustainably managed. Well managed woodlands generally store more carbon than stands that are not harvested. All Forestry Commission woodlands are now certified by the Forest Stewardship Council.
